or maybe ANOTHER techie who is bored enough to take one of these things apart as well and let us know the truth. The Precision Maximizer for UAD-2 hardware and Apollo interfaces is an easy-to-use dynamic impact processor that magically increases perceived loudness. to anyone who has heard of the same rumor and has something to add. I will say again, this is not gospel, only hearsay, BUT I would like to throw it out there. but said that the BBE Sonic Maximizer did not actually do anything in order to align the frequencies. He said that all the unit did was scoop out the mid range, add a few db for "punch" (or what people perceive as punch) and then add some type of harmonic distortion to the high end ( pleassing musical distortion of course). but I have had a reliable source before tell me about someone who took one of these apart only to find that it did no such thing at all. I am absolutely NO authority on the matter. The Aphex exciters actually add a little bit of harmonic distortion to the mix to make it sound fuller and more exciting. This is not, however an exact science, and it is very easy to over use. The BBE delays everything but the low frequencies to line up the lows with the highs. When you hear a sound through a speaker, the low frequencies are actually delayed a bit due to the nature of how speakers work. The BBE actually time-aligns the signal being put through it. The BBE is really the only thing on the market that does what it does.
